  74. of the package and its features, along with instructions for its

  76. but it is in archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  87. for up to 30 days, without charge (see MANUAL.DOC for more details). If
  88. you like the program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation
  89. period, you are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.DOC for
  90. more details).  Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors,
  91. dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their

  111. ===== Installation =====================================
  112.  
  113. The installation procedure for TrackEquip is quite simple.  The package
  114. includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire process.
  115. You will need about 1.5mb of available disk space on the hard drive on
  116. which you plan to install TrackEquip.
  117.  
  118. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  119. TrackEquip.
  120.  
  121.  
  122. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  123.  
  124. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  125.  
  126.    o  Place TrackEquip distribution diskette in the appropriate
  127.       diskette drive.
  128.  
  129.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  130.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  131.       the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  132.  
  133.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. You
  134.       will have a chance to approve installation before any changes are
  135.       actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The program will
  136.       ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the TrackEquip
  137.       files to that directory. It may need to make changes to your
  138.       autoexec.bat and/or config.sys files, however no changes are made
  139.       unless you specifically agree to this.

  142. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  143.  
  144. If you downloaded TrackEquip from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  145. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  146. following steps.
  147.  
  148.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  149.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  150.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  151.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  152.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  153.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  154.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  155.       the package.
  156.  
  157.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  158.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  159.       the TrackEquip package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
  160.       command, "c:\tempdir\install".
  161.  
  162.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  163.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  164.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  165.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  166.       the TrackEquip files to that directory. It may need to
  167.       make changes to your autoexec.bat and/or config.sys files, however
  168.       no changes are made unless you specifically agree to this.

  170. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  171. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed TrackEquip
  172. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  175. IMPORTANT
  176.  
  177. You must set the following environmental variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  178. file, or you must enter it from the command line prior to running the
  179. program:
  180.  
  181.              SET CLIPPER= //F:45
  182.  
  183. This command MUST be set in order for TrackEquip to run. The installation
  184. utility will automatically add the line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file if you
  185. want it to, or you can answer NO at the install prompt and do it
  186. manually.
  187.  
  188. You will also need to check the FILES and BUFFERS settings in your
  189. CONFIG.SYS file (the install program will check this also and give you
  190. the opportunity to modify it, if you want to). If you don't already have
  191. at least 49 FILES and 20 BUFFERS, please change these lines accordingly:

  194.              BUFFERS=20
  195.  
  196. The installation program will make the necessary adjustments to your
  197. CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files if you want it to. If you don't then
  198. you will need to make the changes manually.

  200. You will need to reboot your system in order for these changes to take
  201. effect

  206. Once you've complete the installation, you should consult the document
  207. (MANUAL.DOC) which has been installed.  In particular, read at least the
  208. 'Essential Information' chapter of the file "MANUAL.DOC".  That document
  209. will tell you how to invoke the program, and will give you other
  210. information you need to properly evaluate TrackEquip.  We hope you enjoy
